Dead Wooding
The main reasons for dead wooding are for safety and the tree’s health. Large dead branches and even small dead branches can cause damage and injury to surrounding property.
Therefore TreeSmiths Ltd recommend the removal of all major deadwood where the risk of damage and injury are high and prevalent. It is also advisable for a tree’s health to have deadwood removed as diseased and deadwood can harbour microorganisms and pests which can prove detrimental to the tree’s health in the long term.

Crown cleaning is the removal of epicormic shoots within the crown of the tree; these are small shoots that often appear on the main trunk, limbs and branches of a tree. This procedure is often done in conjunction with dead wooding to improve the appearance of the tree's inner canopy but both can be performed separately if required.
Reasons for dead wooding and crown cleaning are:
-
To reduce the risk of dead wood falling and causing damage or injury
-
Reduce the risk of disease and pest infestation to the tree
-
Improving overall health and beauty of the tree
-
Increase the amount of light and airflow through the trees canopy
